Research Collegium for the Advancement of Sustainability (RECAST)

To contribute to the advancement of sustainability, Dalarna University has established the Research Collegium for the Advancement of Sustainability (RECAST).

About RECAST

RECAST is a forum for researchers and doctoral students from all disciplines to meet and discuss research relating to sustainability, share knowledge, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, widen networks, and develop collaborative partnerships. RECAST is open to anyone who is interested in the role of research in the transition to a sustainable society.

RECAST seminars are conducted in English. To indicate your interest in receiving continuous information about the RECAST seminars and other activities, please do not hesitate to contact Anton Grenholm, agr@du.se.

RECAST Seminars

April 18: The SNS Preparedness Commission

The escalating global security challenges have prompted Sweden to enhance its overall defence capabilities. The pressing issues of climate change and the potential emergence of new pandemics underscore the importance of robust preparedness. To construct and uphold a resilient society, collaborative efforts are essential, involving public and private actors as well as civil society. In response, in 2024 Studieförbundet Näringsliv och Samhälle (SNS) started a three-year research project focused on crisis and preparedness issues – the SNS Preparedness Commission.

The project aims to analyse how to establish and sustain socio-economically efficient preparedness. Associated with the project is a research group that includes Lars Hultkrantz, Professor Emeritus of Economics at the School of Economics, Örebro University, and Lena Nerhagen, PhD in Economics at Dalarna University.

At the following seminar, they will present the group's work and how it relates both to previous research and to ongoing changes in Swedish defence preparedness. The seminar is conducted in English. Read a longer description of the research group's work (pdf, Swedish).

Date and Time: Thursday, 18 April, 13:00-15:00

Venue: F134, Campus Falun, or Zoom (link)
