About SERC
Building on more than 40 years of energy research, Dalarna University established a new interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to energy in 2024.
The acronym for the centre, SERC, was chosen as a tribute to the legacy of the Solar Energy Research Centre, our original research centre dedicated to solar energy which was established in 1984.
SERC's Mission
The promotion of interdisciplinary research within the field of energy and to support industry and public stakeholders in achieving a sustainable and inclusive energy transition.
The Centre brings together different research units from various fields and includes a cooperation unit dedicated to engaging industry and public stakeholders, as well as the wider society.
SERC’s current focus is on three broad thematic areas:
- Energy Systems and Technologies: Promoting resilient, low-carbon energy systems through advancements in renewable energy technologies, energy flexibility, hybrid energy systems, and energy storage solutions.
- Energy and Society: Contributing to a more sustainable, circular, and resource-efficient society by strengthening the interactions between energy and society, particularly within the built environment.
- Sustainable Industries: Focusing on decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and digitalisation in industry, especially within the electricity and heating sectors.
