Emergency Number 112
In an emergency situation, contact the fire department, ambulance, police, and security by phoning the central emergency number 112.
Students and employees have a duty to report accidents, death or any other serious event that may constitute a crisis for an individual or a group.
Try to get an overview of the situation and if possible note:
- What has happened?
- Where it happened?
- When it happened?
- Who has been hurt?
- What measures have been taken?
- Who has been informed?
- What is happening now?

In the event of an accident, a fatality or another such incident that despite its seriousness is not an emergency but does concern students or staff, contact Jan Bjelvenmark, Facility and Safety Officer at the Office of Campus and Facilities Planning.
In each stairwell, you will find an evacution plan showing the exit points for that area of the university that you are in. It also shows the exterior meeting points as well as where to find fire extinguishers, hoses and alarm buttons.
Keep in mind to always keep evacuation routes clear as well as fire-protection equipped accessible.
Threats and Violence
In cases of immediate threat
Dalarna University aims to be a safe and secure place for everyone. If you ever find yourself in a situation where there is an immediate threat (for example, someone is armed with a gun or knife), you must immediately call the police on 112.
Sometimes you can find yourself in a situation that you find threatening, but you still don’t think it is threatening enough to warrant calling the police. For example, there may be a group of individuals that are behaving in a disorderly manner on university premises. In such a situation, call Avarn Security on 010-222 21 21 or 010-210 90 00. They will send out a security guard.
There are four defibrillators in total at the University:
- Campus Borlänge: close to the reception desk
- Campus Falun: close to the reception desk
- The Media Building: close to the stairways at the main entrance
- LIV-Laboratoriet: at the reception desk (in Milan)
The defibrillators are accessible in unlocked wall cabinets. Reception staff, janitorial staff and Help Desk staff have training in CPR and know how to use the defibrillators.
Locks and Alarms
Use your key card to access locked rooms and corridors as well as the University's outside doors and computer labs. After opening hours, you must be able to identify yourself with a key card or other ID.
Report a Theft or Lost Item
If you should be the victim of theft, report the matter to the police as well as our Head of Security Jan Bjelvenmark:
Items that are found or that have been forgotten on campus can be handed into the Facility Services Office (vaktmästeriet) or the reception desk (or directly to the police). These items are kept for two weeks, after which they are handed over to the police. Clothing and similar items are kept for two months, after which they are donated to a charitable organisation.
Information security is about access to the right information by the right person at the right point in time. It is also about information reliability. At the University, we recognise the importance of managing information in a secure and efficient manner.
Simple but Important Measures
- Always lock your computer or log out when you leave your work station.
- Never give your log-in details to anybody else.
- Never send sensitive information in emails.
- Do not download files, click on links or open attachments from emails when you are not sure about their content.
- The IT department will never email you to ask for your log-in details: nor will any other organisation.
- Think twice before discussing sensitive information in a public place.
- Make back-up copies of your work and of important documentation or save in a cloud drive.
