Subject guide: French

Welcome to the library’s subject guide for French studies.

Resources for finding books and articles

  • ERIC
ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) is a database of education research and information (sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education).
  • Gallica
A search service containing old books in full text, among other things.
  • Google Scholar
NB The search service contains not only scholarly literature but also many non-scholarly sources and dishonest journals. Consequently, you should check that sources are scholarly and that articles are not from blacklisted journals in Cabells – Predatory Reports. To get access to full-text articles in the library’s journal subcriptions, you must activate a library link (See Activate library links in Google Scholar).
The open archive HAL-SHS (Sciences de l’Homme et de la Société) contains scholarly literature in the disciplines of humanities and social sciences.
  • Linguistics Collection
Database collection for literature on linguistics and language-related disciplines. The collection searches simultaneously in the databases Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts and Linguistics Database.
  • Scopus
Scopus helps users find trusted research in different subjects.
The "Système Universitaire de Dokumentation" (SUDOC) catalogue is a French collective catalogue created by Higher Educational and Research libraries and resource centres. A good resource for finding French books, including dissertations.
  • Summon
In this search service you find the library's printed books, e-books and journal articles. You also find books and articles that are not part of the library's collection.

Encylopedias and dictionaries

  • Britannica Academic
Source consisting of Encyclopædia Britannica and Merriam-Webster (dictionary and thesaurus), among other things.

More dictionaries can be found in section Fj(x) in the library.

Resources for finding student theses

  • DiVA
Find full-text theses and other scholarly works submitted at Högskolan Dalarna.
Search for full-text theses submitted at Swedish universities.

More resources

  • ALaLettre
