The results of the last decades of the socio-economic development in Baltic States and Russian Federation together has influenced even a rapid growth in the tourism industry involving tourism exchange and flows of tourists from Nordic countries. This resulted in a growing scholarly interest in the exchange of knowledge, experiences and know-how within the fields of tourism research and education.
Several examples of such initiatives are - the EU-funded learning-project (TOULL) between Denmark and four regions in Russia, or the co-project ‘Education in the field of sustainable tourism in Russia’ between and Russian State University of Tourism and Hospitality (Moscow, Russia).
The organizers of this session invite scholars who are involved in EU or nationally funded initiatives of these type of cooperation/research projects with a Nordic-Baltic-Russian perspective in order to share research results and experiences of cooperation as a kind of a state-of-the-art of cooperation.
The goal of this session is to raise specific problems or research issues related to the Nordic-Baltic-Russian perspective aiming to strengthen the cooperation and the research outcome of these efforts.
Possible topics, but not limited to, could be:
- Innovative examples of destination development, successful marketing strategies
- Collaboration between public sector and tourism industry – major concerns and challenges
- International cooperation within the field of tourism in the Nordic-Baltic-Russian area
- Research methods
- Pedagogical aspects of teaching tourism
- Tourist motivations and preferences of major tourism groups in the region
- Sustainable tourism – realities and possible futures
- Arctic tourism
- Car-tourism and national tourist routes
- Second-home tourism
