Semester start: Welcome Day for new international students

This Welcome Day, with its presentations and activities, marks the start of your studies at Dalarna University. You will learn more about the university, meet your future classmates, and find out about your new home in Dalarna. We look very much forward to welcoming you on the day!

New international students to Dalarna University are encouraged to join our Welcome Day information session before the semester starts.

The deadline to register was January 1st, 2026. If you forgot to register online and would like to participate please e-mail study@du.se no later than January 10th.

When and where is Welcome Day

Date: January 16 
Time: 09:00. Please arrive between 8:45 - 8:55

πŸ—ΊοΈ Getting to Campus Borlänge

🚢 Walking

  • From student accommodation in Borlänge: The campus is located in central Borlänge, about a 25–35 minute walk from the various student housing areas.

🚲 Biking

  • Borlänge has safe and direct bike routes into the city center. From most student accommodation, it takes around 10–15 minutes by bike to reach campus.

🚌 By Bus

  • From Borlänge (local): Take any local bus that stops at “Borlänge Centrum” – the bus stop is directly outside campus.
  • From Falun:
    • Bus 152 departs Knutpunkten (Falun) at 08:25, arriving Borlänge Centrum at 08:47.
    • If you live in Britsen, walk ~600 meters to Jungfruvägen/E16 and take Bus 151 at 07:59, arriving Borlänge Centrum at 08:37.
  • πŸ’‘ Use the Dalatrafik app to purchase tickets and check live schedules. NO CASH.

πŸš† By Train

  • If you are traveling from outside Dalarna, take the train to Borlänge Central Station. From there, it’s a 7-minute walk to campus, or you can take any local bus to “Borlänge Centrum.”

  • Paid parking is available close to campus.
  • Free parking is available at Folkets Park (Jussi Björlingsväg), about a 10-minute walk from campus.

Programme Overview (Friday, January 16)

The outline below shows the planned schedule for the day and are subject to change. Your personal schedule (printed on your name tag) takes precedence.

  • 08:45-08:55 Arrive and collect your nametag. Please try not to arrive before 8:45
  • 09:00 – Welcome & opening remarks (Vice Chancellor)
  • 09:15 – Student Union welcome and overview of Winter Week activiites
  • 09:30 – Welcome to Falun and Borlänge (Borlänge and Falun municipalities)
  • 10:00 - Social activity followed by fika break
  • 10:45 – Living and Studying at DU: support services, IT tools, academic guidance, useful information for international students
  • 12:00 – Group walk to IKEA for lunch (approx. 1 km each way)
  • 12:15 – 13:00 – Lunch at IKEA (plantballs with potato options)
  • 13:05 – Walk back to campus
  • 13:15 – 14:30 Mini fair on campus (Campus tour, Wifi help, sign up for student union activities and membership, chance to ask staff and current students questions and get help) 
  • ~14:30 – Programme ends with Fika
  • 13:30 – 16:00 Get your DU keycard (by pre-assigned appointment only)

    Note: Photos will be taken during Welcome Day for university communications. 

What to Bring

  • Your keycard (If you have already received this, otherwise you can still come)
  • Comfortable and appropriate clothes & shoes (we’ll walk outside ~1 km to IKEA and 1 km back)
  • Water bottle (refill stations available on campus)

If walking 1 km is difficult for you due to mobility or health reasons, please contact us in advance so we can assist.


Food & Fika

Lunch at IKEA is included. Menu options: Swedish plantballs, with lingonberry jam / brown sauce, peas, and your choice of potatoes. 

Fika: A small snack will be offered on campus toward the end of the day.
