Register for an exam
You register to take an exam on the webpage Examination Services.
Registration opens one month before the date of the exam and closes two weeks before the date of the exam. If you do not register, you cannot take the exam even if place is available. Instead, you will have to wait until the next time the exam is held and register for it.
You can check to see if you are registered under the heading "Examinations you are signed up for" on the webpage.
Forms of examination
Campus exams
You should be in the exam room no later than 30 minutes before the exam begins. If you are not there at least 10 minutes before it begins, you will not be admitted into the room. Instead, you will need to wait for a second entry, which will take place 30 minutes after the scheduled start time. As a result, you will have less time to complete the exam. The student web provides information about where exams will be held.
Digital exams on campus
There are two types of digital exams on campus: exams in Canvas and exams in Inspera. Students use university computers for both of these. Before you take an exam in Inspera, we recommend that you take a trial exam. This can be done at the earliest 24 hours after you have registered for an exam in the Inspera examination system. To log in to Inspera, you need to know your username and password for your university account.

Exam in Inspera (du.inspera.com)
For digital exams there is no second entry.
Online exams
The exam room opens 60 minutes before the exam is set to start. You should be in the digital exam room in Zoom no later than 30 minutes before the exam starts. If you arrive later than this, there is no guarantee you will receive all the time for the exam. If you are not in the room 10 minutes before the exam starts, you will not be able to take the exam at all.
Technical requirements - online exams
To take an online exam, you need the following:
- Internet connection (at least 2 Mbit/s).
- A computer with (at minimum) a 13-inch screen.
- Equipment for incoming and outgoing audio so that you can communicate with the examination invigilators. You must ensure that you can hear the invigilators at all times throughout the examination.
- An external webcam or other device with a camera to film yourself with. (NOTE: do not film yourself from a front angle.) Place the camera as shown in the image below. The examiner must be able to see you, your desk and what is happening on your screen.
- A telephone that the examination invigilator can contact you on. If you are using the camera on your mobile phone, you must have another phone that is visible on your desk that you can be contacted on at all times.
- Chromebooks are not permitted for use in online examinations, either in Canvas or Inspera.
You must also be logged in to SSO in Zoom according to the instructions on the webpage "Zoom for students".

Study aids
It is up to you to find what study aids you may use during the exam. The examination invigilator will check these during the exam. You can only take the study aids listed in the instructions for the exam.
After the exam
Teachers have 15 working days to assess your exam. Grades are reported to Ladok regardless of the type of exam. For paper exams taken in class, the teacher takes them to the reception desk for scanning. Within five working days, your exam will appear on Exam Services under "Your scanned exams".
Online Exams in Canvas: you will see your submissions/exam answers under grades. Here you can see a summary of your grades and in each section you can see feedback from teachers.
Digital Classroom Exams in Inspera: after the teacher has assessed your work, you can log in to Inspera with your DU student account and click on the heading Archive. There you will see your completed digital exams. Click on the exam date, and you will see your scores and feedback from the teacher.

FAQ - Questions about exams
General questions
There are two confirmations of your registration: you need to ensure you have at least one.
The first is that your registration will disappear from the box under the heading “Sign up for examinations” and move to “Examinations you are signed up for”. On the day of the exam, your registration will disappear from here.
The second is that you will receive an email to your university account: check that it isn’t in your junk inbox.
If you do not see your registration, then you have not registered (signed up) for the exam. If registration is closed, you will have to wait until the next exam opportunity. The system does not allow late registrations.
Up until the day of the exam, you will be able to see which exams you have signed up for on the Student Web on the Examination Services webpage under Examinations. You will also receive a confirmation in your university email. Please check your junk/spam filter.
You cannot view your exam registration in Examination Services on the same day as the exam. Look for your confirmation of exam registration that was sent to your email with the sender noreply@du.se.
You can see this in your exam registration in Examination Services, under Examination tools; there, it will say “Inspera”.
You can go to whichever one you want on that campus. If you have been assigned a specific room, the examination invigilator will direct you to the correct room.
No, there is a limited number of places on each campus. Registration closes when the venue is full; after this, the next available venue will open. See your exam registration.
The exam invigilators try to allow access to the room about 45 minutes before the exam starts and will keep the door open until the clock in the room reads 10 minutes before the exam starts. At this time, the door closes, and no one else is allowed to enter the room.
For paper exams – you can find them on the Student web/Examination services.
For exams written in Canvas – you will find them in Canvas/Grades.
For exams written in Inspera – you can find them on https://du.inspera.com/; select Archive.
All exams are saved for two years before they are discarded.
In Inspera, the order of exam questions is random. This means that when you compare your results, you also need to compare the content, not the order of the questions in the exam. If a question bank is used in the exam, the questions may also vary even if they examine the same content.
Educational support
No, we only send information if we are NOT able to provide support, as well as specific information about adapted course material in Inspera, where the student is responsible for sorting out the support.
Contact pedagogisktstod@du.se and ask them to update this on Examination Services.
Ensure that you have literature to assist you in the exam. You can do this by contacting the course coordinator. If it is missing, you will not receive the support. The examination coordinator will contact you after registration has closed, and you will then need to provide the author, year, title and ISBN number. The exam instructor will give you a USB stick with the material. You, as a student, will import the file into EasyReader. You are responsible for knowing how the programs work. If you do not do so, you are encouraged to contact the library at bibinfo@du.se well in advance of the date of the exam. No technical support is provided during the exam.
Unfortunately, the system is not compatible with educational support. Extra time can be added, but with online exams, you are already sitting alone/sitting in a small group room, which means no additional support measures are offered. Speech synthesis and spelling correction cannot be distinguished from ChatGPT and other AI functions during monitoring and are only offered if the examiner gives their approval, which is more the exception than the rule.
The answers below apply to campus exams and online exams in the Inspera system.
The system has built-in speech synthesis and spelling. These are always turned on unless language is being examined or the examiner has chosen to remove them. You have to activate it yourself via the menu in the right-hand corner.
Extra time is activated by Examination Services, and you can see in the left-hand corner, after the exam starts, how much time you have left on the exam. If this is not visible, turn it on via the menu in the right-hand corner.
Take an exam in a small group/individually: All educational support computers at Dalarna University can use Inspera and are therefore portable. However, there may be a lack of resources to accommodate exams in smaller groups or individually. At Campus Borlänge, there are two private rooms adjacent to the regular room.
Adapted course material is compatible with Inspera. Provided that literature is permitted for use during the exam, the examination coordinator will email the student instructions approximately 4–7 days before the exam. The instructions will say what the student needs to do before the exam so that the literature can be activated and used during the exam.
No, we provide support but not for M360, Appwriter, StavaRätt, Legimus or EasyReader during the exam. As a student, you are responsible for knowing how to use the software/apps. If you are unsure, you can read more here: https://www.du.se/en/library/loands-and-requests/talking-books2/ or you can contact bibinfo@du.se. Do this well in advance of the exam date. No technical support is provided during the exam itself.

The exam function enters the information into your schedule in TimeEdit. You will then see it when you go to the student website – choose your schedule and go to the exam. You may need to click on it for all the information to be visible. If there is no mention of educational support, go to whichever room is mentioned for your course. All rooms for the course have complete lists and can therefore direct you to the correct room.
