Semester Start: Welcome Day for New International Students

This Welcome Day, with its presentations and activities, marks the start of your studies at Dalarna University. You will learn more about the university, meet your future classmates, and find out about your new home in Dalarna. We look very much forward to welcoming you on the day!

Thank you for joining our Welcome Day! We were happy to welcome you to Dalarna University and hope you enjoyed meeting new classmates, learning more about student life, and experiencing your first fika together.

Programme Highlights (Friday, August 29)

  • Welcome & opening remarks from the Vice Chancellor and the Student Union
  • Living and Studying at DU: support services, IT tools, academic guidance, and introductions to Falun and Borlänge
  • Group walk and lunch at IKEA
  • Social activities on campus
  • Closing fika together
  • Optional info session on applying for a Coordination Number / personnummer

Photo Scavenger Hunt

Make memories, have fun, and show your creativity! Work together in groups and complete the challenges below — the best team will win a prize.

Make memories, have fun, and show your creativity! Work together in groups and complete the challenges below — the best team will win a prize.

  • Form your own group of 4–6 people.
  • At least 4 group members must appear in each photo (unless otherwise specified).
  • Each photo is worth 2 points. Extra points will be awarded for creativity (judged by the evaluation committee).
  • Take your photos anytime during the day, but share them by 19:00 in a public Instagram post so they can be viewed and scored.
  • Your post must include:
    • Your group’s scavenger hunt photos
    • The name of your group’s contact person in the caption
    • The hashtag #DalarnaIntro25
      Make sure everyone in the photos has given consent before posting.

Scavenger List – Take photos of:

  1. The group in a park/playground
  2. The group on the Staircase of Knowledge
  3. The group with the Jussi Björling statue (he sings once a day)
  4. The group doing work on campus
  5. At least one person in the group using the recycle bins
  6. The group with a Dalahorse
  7. At least two people in the goup clearly showing the nationalities of its members
  8. Group members having a Swedish fika
  9. The group hanging out on the student balcony
  10. You pointing to your name on the TV screen
  11. At least three group members using the chair swings in the library
  12. The group at Paprika in Borlänge Centrum
