Sexual and Reproductive Health

Second Cycle

Starts week 8, 2024

The overall goal is that the student will deepen the knowledge in sexual and reproductive health as a human right in relation to different perspectives. In addition to develop knowledge in reproductive endocrinology, fetal development, sexology, gynecological conditions, diseases and treatments based on teh midwifery profession and professional liability.

After completing the course the student should be able to
  • describe and analyze women‘s sexual and reproductive health as a human right in relation to culture, gender and biopsychosocial and sustainability perspectives,
  • problematize care activities, with a focus on health promotion, related to sexually transmitted diseases in the light of current legislation and risks of infection and development of resistance,
  • analyze the importance of health promotion during the reproductive life cycle phases in relation to gender, sexuality and relationships based on historical, religious, cultural, ethical and psychosocial perspectives,
  • identify problem areas and formulate relevant questions related to pregnancy, legal or spontaneous termination of pregnancy, sterilization and infertility based on historical, religious, cultural, ethical and psychosocial perspectives on sexuality and relationships,
  • describe the reproductive organs anatomy and physiology in relation to adjacent organ systems, reproductive endocrinology, breast anatomy and physiology as well as women‘s and men‘s sexual physiology,
  • explain how pregnancy and infertility are determined clinically and how spontaneous and provoked abortion and sterilization can be carried out,
  • describe the function of the placenta, embryo growth and development of the fetus,
  • describe beningn and malignant gynecological changes, assess and evaluate health status and plan nursing care, and reflect the impact on sexuality in a life cycle perspective associated with these conditions.
