The midwifery profession and professional discipline is discussed in the course from a historical, national and international perspective. Legislation, regulations and ethical issues in midwifery profession and field of work are studied. Womens living conditions are analyzed based on gender as well as historical, religious, cultural and psychosocial perspectives. Furthermore, the studies comprise research methodology, research ethics, relevant legislation and information focusing on the research in sexual, reproductive and perinatal health. Research and development work relevant for evidence-based care and future leadership are discussed.
