Profession, Theory and Method

Starts week 3, 2024

The overall goal is that students will acquire knowledge of the midwifery profession, field of work and knowledge and skills as the basis for evidence-based care and to lead quality and development work focusing on the midwife‘s responsibility and research fields.

After completing the course the student should be able to
  • discuss and consider how the midwifery profession and the professional liability have changed historically and varies nationally and internationally,
  • critically discuss the living conditions of women and their sexual, reproductive and perinatal health from different perspectives, such as gender,
  • explain the laws, regulations, national and international rules of ethics that govern the midwifery profession and professional liability;
  • explain the epistemological basis and apply key research methods in sexual, reproductive and perinatal health,
  • with use of adequate concepts, perform searches, critically examine and relate to the scientific literature within a defined area within the field of knowledge,
  • analyze how ethical considerations and regulations govern research on sexual, reproductive and perinatal health,
  • critically reflect on the relationship between experience-based and research-based knowledge, as well as the concepts of development work and research,
  • identify needs and evaluate conditions for an evidence-based care within the midwife‘s field of work,
  • reflect on their own values ??and attitudes towards the midwife‘s supportive and restorative work.
