Prerequisites

  • A Swedish nursing licence, and a completed Bachelor‘s degree in any major in the health sciences and Thesis 15 credits

Summary in English

The overall aim is that the student should acquire knowledge and skills that will enable him or her to provide evidence-based care and to lead quality and developmental work with a focus on the midwifery profession and its research fields.

Upon completion of the course, the student shall be able to:

  • discuss and reflect on the midwifery profession and the way in which professional responsibility has changed from a historical, national and international perspective,
  • critically discuss women’s state of living and their sexual, reproductive and perinatal health in relation to culture, gender and bio-psychosocial and sustainability perspectives,
  • understand legislation, regulations, national and international rules related to professional ethics that regulate the midwifery profession and the professional responsibility of the midwife,
  • understand the theoretical basis of knowledge and apply central research methods from the field of sexual, reproductive and perinatal health and using the necessary terms search for, critically review and relate to scientific literature within a defined area of knowledge,
  • analyze ethical considerations in research in relation to the regulatory framework that governs the field of sexual, reproductive and perinatal health,
  • critically reflect on the relation between experience- and research-based knowledge as well as developmental work and research,
  • identify the need for and evaluate what is required to achieve evidence-based care within the field of sexual, reproductive and perinatal health,
  • reflect on his or her own values and attitudes towards the supportive function of the midwife.
