E-society: e-governance och e-services

Starts week 3, 2024

The overall goal of the course is that the student acquires knowledge and skills about e-society, especially regarding governance and services.

After completing the course, the student should be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

· Describe the characteristics of an e-society, and what distinguishes it from the type of society that we had before computerisation, digitalisation, and the Internet. (Part 1.)
· Demonstrate an understanding of the new challenges and possibilities an e-society may offer citizens and businesses, as well as democratically elected organs and government agencies on different levels. (Part 2.)
· Describe requirements on information systems and e-services in an e-society, and which technical and methodological solutions are available for meeting the requirements. (Part 3.)

Skills and abilities

· Apply scientific approaches to the possibilities and problems of an e-society. (Part 1-4.)
· Search for and critically evaluate and use knowledge and practical experiences about e-societies that are available from different sources, not least on the Internet. (Part 1-4.)
· Analyse existing and proposed e-solutions from the ABC-model´s three perspectives. (Part 4.)
· Contribute their own solution proposals for different practical problems in e-society, especially concerning systems and technology. (Part 4.)

Values and attitudes

· Critically review and evaluate existing and proposed e-solutions from an ethical perspective, e.g. concerning privacy and human rights in a democratic society. (Part 4.)

Computer Skills:

Surf on the Internet, read and send emails, use a word-processing programme (e.g. Word). Connect a camera and headphones to the computer and install a programme using instructions.

Computer Capacity:

Access to a computer (Not a mini pc, tablet or similar) that is not older than two years (or equivalent) and broadband connection, at least 2 Mbit/s (not mobile broadband, because mobile broadband can vary considerably in speed).

Means of Education:

Higher rate of web-based communication where our learning platform (Learn/Canvas) is a natural element of the course. Web-based meetings with sound and image where simple presentations can be held. Lectures can be broadcast live or can alternatively be made available afterwards online.
