German: Languages and New Media

This course is a stand-alone course at the German III level. The prerequisite is German: Written language proficiency II, 7.5 credits and German: Language and cultural history with academic writing, 7.5 credits

Within the course there are online meetings that take place in a virtual classroom at set times. Likewise, the course is based on independent work with tasks that are distributed every two weeks.

Within the course, digital communication is studied and analyzed from different perspectives and in relation to different research directions within language and new media. Language is treated within several types of digital communication. A smaller empirical study on an own corpus and with a relevant method is carried out.

The course is examined through active participation in seminars, oral presentations and written assignments. The teaching takes place in German.

Computer Skills:

Surf on the Internet, read and send emails, use a word-processing programme (e.g. Word). Connect a camera and headphones to the computer and install a programme using instructions.

Computer Capacity:

Access to a computer (Not a mini pc, tablet or similar) that is not older than three years (or equivalent) and broadband connection, at least 1 Mbit/s (not mobile broadband, because mobile broadband can vary considerably in speed).

Means of Education:

Higher rate of web-based communication where our learning platform (Learn/Canvas) is a natural element of the course. Web-based meetings with sound and image where simple presentations can be held. Lectures can be broadcast live or can alternatively be made available afterwards online.
