Research Project: Development and assessment of web based education at advanced level within midwifery education and training programmes in Somaliland.
The purpose of this project is to develop and implement a context sensitive model for web based education using information and communications technology (ICT) within midwifery education and training programmes in Somaliland. A benchmarking approach will be applied in order to determine best practice of web based education at advanced level within midwifery education and training programmes in Somaliland. Two studies will be conducted: (i) Focus group discussions (FGD) to explore the barriers and facilitators in using web based education among educators and students within midwifery training programmes in Somaliland, (i) quasi experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of web based and face to face education at advanced level within midwifery education and training programmes in Somaliland.
Scientific evaluations and assessments are needed to determine best practice for web based education in a low resource context such as Somaliland. By developing a context sensitive model for web based education within midwifery education and training institutions in Somaliland the project is attempting to contribute to the reduction of maternal mortality and morbidity.
