The research group Transition, Identity and Civil Society (TICS) brings together researchers in political science and sociology at Dalarna University. Their research focuses on how democratic institutions, civil society, and culture interact in times of change.
The work is organised around four main fields of interest:
- Democratic institutions: legislative and executive power, political parties, constitutional systems, and regime change
- Civic engagement and trust: civil society, integration, political culture, national identity, and tolerance
- Social policy: welfare, youth issues, integration, segregation, and issues concerning older adults
- Digitalisation and culture: digital media and the role of technology in societal transformation
The research combines qualitative and quantitative methods and is often conducted in collaboration with researchers nationally and internationally.
Projects and collaborations
TICS participates in several externally funded projects, including those financed by the Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies, Forte, and the Swedish Research Council. Research is carried out in collaboration with higher education institutions in Sweden, the other Nordic countries, and across Europe.
Seminar series
TICS organises a seminar series featuring guest lectures, paper presentations, and thematic discussions. Seminars are held approximately once a month.
