Transition, Identity and Civil Society (TICS)

The research group TICS studies how societies change, how people engage themselves, and how identity and trust are formed in different political and cultural contexts. Their research covers Sweden and Europe, as well as other parts of the world.

The research group Transition, Identity and Civil Society (TICS) brings together researchers in political science and sociology at Dalarna University. Their research focuses on how democratic institutions, civil society, and culture interact in times of change.

The work is organised around four main fields of interest:

  • Democratic institutions: legislative and executive power, political parties, constitutional systems, and regime change
  • Civic engagement and trust: civil society, integration, political culture, national identity, and tolerance
  • Social policy: welfare, youth issues, integration, segregation, and issues concerning older adults
  • Digitalisation and culture: digital media and the role of technology in societal transformation

The research combines qualitative and quantitative methods and is often conducted in collaboration with researchers nationally and internationally.
