AI in language teaching

Sylvi Elsner, Senior lecturer in German, works on issues related to how students can develop a critical and reflective use of AI in academic contexts. A central focus of her work is how AI tools can support, rather than replace, the writing process, and how students can identify the strengths, risks, and limitations of using AI in academic writing. This forms part of a broader effort to strengthen students’ AI literacy. Sylvi also works with didactic questions in language teaching, particularly how AI can be integrated into grammar and writing courses in ways that enhance students’ awareness, analytical skills, and creativity. Her focus is on developing teaching formats in which AI is used as part of a well‑designed pedagogical approach that promotes critical thinking.
