Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students shall be able to:

  • describe and problematise Italian language structures and morphology
  • describe, using adequate terminology, grammatical rules and do so in a contrasting perspective as well
  • use Italian morphology and syntax, as well as a language adapted for the purpose, in their own text production
  • plan and write a short essay in Italian showing language and textual competence.
  • search and critically use relevant sources, as well as correctly refer to them in their own text production.

Course Content

The course consists of two parts. The first part includes a contrastive review of Italian grammar with written application exercises. In the second part, students develop their ability to plan and write a shorter scientific essay.

Assessment

Continuous assessment of active participation in seminars, written assignments, a short essay and a final written exam.

Forms of Study

Obligatory seminars in which students are expected to participate actively and in interaction with others.The course is taught in Italian.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, VG is required for modules 2 and 3.

Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Active participation in seminars and written assignments - 2 cr
Module 2: Short essay - 2.5 cr
Module 3: Final written exam in grammar - 3 cr

  • Italian A: Phonetics and Oral Proficiency, 7.5 credits, Italian A: Grammar and Written Proficiency, 7.5 credits and one of the Italian A: Text Analysis courses, 7.5 credits
