Thesis in Nursing Science

Starts week 4, 2026

The overall objective is that the student, through their own thesis and being the opponent of another student‘s work, will have in-depth knowledge in various defined areas in nursing. Further, the student should have the ability to systematically develop and absorb knowledge as a basis for evidence-based care.

After completing the course the student should independently be able to:

  • discern, problematize and formulate aim and research questions for an independent thesis in nursing with regard to scientific, ethical and societal aspects,
  • systematically search for and critically evaluate scientific publications as a basis for the thesis,
  • explain and apply concepts and theories relevant to nursing and related to the chosen knowledge area,
  • critically discuss and apply ethical research principles in relation to the chosen area,
  • apply an appropriate scientific design and method of data collection and analysis in relation to the aim and questions,
  • analyze and discuss the results in relation to previous research and the chosen theoretical framework,
  • analyze and discuss the choice of design and methods in relation to the aim and questions,
  • explain the clinical significance of their own work and suggest further research,
  • critically examine and evaluate their own and others‘ theses regarding content, structure, and applicability in nursing,
  • reflect on their own knowledge process and identify areas where further skills need to be developed.
