The course studies the historical development of German-language children’s and young adult literature, as well as a selection of texts from contemporary German-language children’s and young adult fiction. The course is based on a broad concept of literature that can also include graphic novels, cartoons and film adaptations. The works are analyzed and contextualized based on different themes and problematized based on current issues and topics such as gender perspectives, sustainability, diversity, everyday realism, (post-)migration and how this is conveyed to young readers. The students analyze the literature from didactic and literary studies perspectives.
Within the course, there are mandatory online meetings that take place in a virtual classroom at set times. (There are no physical gatherings.) The course is also based on independent work with assignments that are handed out in the course room.
Mandatory online meetings will be held according to the schedule.
