Russian for Mother Tongue Teachers: Russian Language Learning and Teaching in a Multilingual Perspective

The overall objective of the course is that course participants develop knowledge, skills and attitudes to prepare them to work professionally as mother-tongue teachers of Russian and to be involved in the development of the subject.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • explain language development theories from a historical, social and cultural perspective
  • describe and discuss key concepts in language development in a multilingual environment
  • discuss how basic language skills are developed
  • based on selected theories and previous research on language development, analyse and critically review teaching materials in Russian and develop their own teaching materials
  • explain specific features that characterise online language teaching
  • argue for didactic choices based on psycholinguistic aspects of language development.
