Starts week 4, 2026

On completion of the course, students shall be able to:

  • independently search, collect, evaluate and critically interpret and analyse relevant scientific material for an issue related to Russian literature, culture or language
  • carry out an independent literary, cultural or linguistic study within a given timeframe, with demands on scientific value, research connection and argumentation that has its foundation in well-executed literary, cultural or linguistic analyses
  • apply a scientific writing method and use common formalities for scientific text
  • present and argue for their own results, in writing as well as orally, in Russian, English or Swedish
  • follow research ethical standards
  • analyse, evaluate and discuss their own scientific work, as well as that of others, by pointing out the merits as well as the shortcomings of the work in the form of clear constructive criticism.

Starts week 3, 2027

In the course, students will author a scientific study in Russian, Swedish or English of about 10000 - 15000 words, based on a well-defined literary, cultural or linguistic problem related to Russian literature, culture or language. Students choose the focus and topic of their thesis in consultation with the supervisor. At the end of the course, students defend their thesis at a public seminar.
