Italian C: Italian Linguistics

Starts week 36, 2024

On completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • explain central linguistic theories and methods
  • discuss the structure of modern Italian, in particular its morphology and syntax, and from a contrastive perspective for the Romance languages
  • explain and apply basic concepts in the following linguistic areas: semantics, pragmatics, text linguistics and sociolinguistics
  • reflect on fundamental issues that drive modern linguistic research
  • independently carry out a small-scale linguistic analysis project in Italian linguistics, and present this orally and in writing.

Computer Capacity:

Access to a computer (Not a mini pc, tablet or similar) that is not older than two years (or equivalent) and broadband connection, at least 2 Mbit/s (not mobile broadband, because mobile broadband can vary considerably in speed).

Means of Education:

Higher rate of web-based communication where our learning platform (Learn/Canvas) is a natural element of the course. Web-based meetings with sound and image where simple presentations can be held. Lectures can be broadcast live or can alternatively be made available afterwards online.
