Scientific Method and Communication

The course is practical in nature and focuses on how to carry out small scale research projects with a focus on technology and business. Certain basic concepts with relevance to science and research will be introduced early in the course. In addition, the planning and carrying out of a research process are covered as is the communication of results to various stakeholders.

The course is run via mandatory workshops which focus on scientific writing and presentation technique as a means of support for a project. Regarding scientific writing, the focus is on clear, concise written communication adapted to a scientific audience/reader, which which takes into account’ to: reader, applying template as well as current scientific standards and reference practices.

The course includes at least one presentation which is recorded . After viewing this recording and reading teacher feedback, the provided reflection document will be used by the student to analyse and reflect on their current presentation proficiency and to develop a strategy for future presentation development.

The course also includes individual meetings (tutorials) with course teachers where students receive feedback both on the writing process for the course report  and on presentation preparations.

In the course, there is also a module which provides an overview of group dynamics specifically related to project management that includes, for example, case study discussions.
