Film History: An Introduction

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • explain and reflect on how different styles and forms of storytelling have developed during the history of film
  • describe and reflect on how production conditions and technical innovations have influenced the development of film storytelling
  • exemplify and discuss how the conceptual content of films has influenced and been influenced by contemporary norms during different time periods
  • reflect on how changes in audience conditions have affected the development of film
  • analyse and discuss the qualities of different films from a historical perspective.
