Arabic: Academic Writing

First Cycle

Starts week 36, 2024

Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:

  • account for some of the more important sources for studies of the arabic language and literature
  • discuss and explain the concepts of plagiarism and academic honesty
  • correctly use one of the more well-known reference systems
  • form relevant research questions
  • search for material in connection with a particular research question and judge the relevance and trustworthiness of the material
  • produce different types of academic texts such as articles, abstracts, popular science summaries and reviews
  • create a reasonable work plan for a project and complete the work within the given timeframe
  • compose a written text according to given formalia
  • give and take critical response on a written text.

Computer Skills:

Surf on the Internet, read and send emails, use a word-processing programme (e.g. Word). Plug in peripherals to your computer, install programmes and adapt installations for your computer.

Computer Capacity:

Access to a computer (Not a mini pc, tablet or similar) that is not older than two years (or equivalent) and broadband connection, at least 2 Mbit/s (not mobile broadband, because mobile broadband can vary considerably in speed).

Means of Education:

Higher rate of web-based communication where our learning platform (Learn/Canvas) is a natural element of the course, as are web-based meetings using sound and image. Lectures can be broadcast live or can alternatively be made available afterwards online. Use more advanced programmes – for example, simulation programmes.
