Recorded lectures
Most of the courses and programmes at Dalarna University are taught by distance. This is why many course instructors record lectures and post them on Canvas. This is particularly helpful for individuals who have difficulty taking notes during lectures. Pause and finish writing your notes in peace and quiet at your place of study before continuing the lecture completely at your own pace.
Recording pen
A recording pen can help you if you need note-taking support because of a disability. To borrow a recording pen with an associated smart notepad (Echo Smart Pen 2), a decision on pedagogical support is required (NAIS decision). The pen is a good tool if you want to take lecture notes with pen and paper. Brief product information about the Echo Smart Pen 2 can be found on the page svensktalteknologi.se.
Tools for audio recordings and notes
If you want to take notes directly on your computer/mobile, there are various tools available (these do not require NAIS documentation). Below are some suggestions for tools that you can use. These are only tips, and the list is not meant to be considered comprehensive since there may be other tools that you want to use instead:
- AudioNote is an app that records audio, and you can use it to take notes. You can then move between the notes, and you do not have to listen to the entire lecture. Available in both free and paid versions.
- Notability is another app that records audio and that you can use to take notes. It has many functions: one is that you can take notes on imported PDFs and get the lecturer's speech for each slide. It costs SEK 109 in the App Store.
- OneNote is included in Microsoft Office 365: it is free for students to download on Student licences. OneNote is a note-taking program that you can also use to make audio recordings.
If you are granted study support and then plan to use one of the above note-taking support tools, you will receive a recommendation to this effect in your NAIS documentation. You present this documentation to your programme director/course coordinator so that they are aware that you will be taking audio recordings for your own personal use. If you do not have NAIS documentation but want to use one of the above notes during lectures, please contact your programme coordinator/course coordinator and ask to make audio recordings for your own use.
