Support during examinations

Writing exams can be challenging, especially if you are sensitive to sound and have a disability. To help create a fair and calm environment, various aids and adaptations are available, such as those listed here.

Reduce background noise during exams

  • All students can use earplugs at exams. They are recommended as a first measure for anyone who needs a quiet place to write exams. Earplugs can be bought at the reception desks on both campuses.

  • If you want even fewer audio distractions, you can borrow noise-cancelling earmuffs from the exam coordinators on campus in Borlänge and Falun. Talk to the coordinator for study support if you want to borrow a pair for your exam.

Adapted exam environments

  • If you have a permanent disability, you can sit in a smaller group while writing the exam. There should be no more than five students in this group.

  • If you have a permanent disability that makes it clear that you need a separate room during an exam, this can be arranged after discussion with the coordinator.

Timing of examinations

If you have a permanent disability that makes it difficult for you to perform at your best under time pressure, you can receive more time to complete an exam. The guidelines for extended examination time allow for a 25% increase on the regular time set for an exam.

Digital support programs for exams

Our programs for reading aloud (AppWriter) and spelling (SkrivaText) can also be used during an exam; for this, a decision on study support (NAIS decision) is required. Spelling software is never allowed on exams that aim to test grammar or language proficiency.

Alternative forms of examination

In some cases, forms of assessment can be adapted. For this, clear documentation of the disability is required that clearly demonstrates the limitations that prevent you from taking an examination in its regular form. All decisions on alternative forms of examination are made by the examiner.
