Building evidence of the built environment's impact on health (BUILD)

This study compiles the research results from studies examining the built environment's impact on health, well-being, and efficiency.

Description

This study compiles the research results from studies examining the built environment's impact on health, well-being, and efficiency. There is a growing awareness of the importance of the built environment for the quality of health care and health outcomes. Research has investigated how the design of the built environment can affect patients' and staff's safety, quality of care, satisfaction, and increase efficiency and thereby reduce healthcare costs. Caring environments can positively impact health outcomes and contribute to adverse effects such as difficulties in maintaining safe care that spread infections, falls, and stress among patients, relatives, and staff. Recently, there has been an exponential increase in studies on how design functions affect health.
