Taking part were students who collectively represented the university’s 8 academic disciplines and 43 degree programmes. Those that were most represented on the day were graduates from the nursing programme, system science programme, human resources and working life programme, secondary education (school years 7-9) programme, and higher education programme in industrial engineering and management.
The ceremony brought together close to 2,000 friends and family members, who together with the graduating students were able to enjoy live music from the Showlins and inspirational speeches in a celebratory atmosphere.
Students were called onto the stage to receive their diploma, which symbolically marked the end of their studies at the university.
Guiding words for the future
Vice-Chancellor Jörgen Elbe, a key speaker at the ceremony, acknowledged the important role the graduates have in society and the pride in themselves that he hopes each graduate feels.
– I hope you can look back positively on your time here. Above all, be proud of your performance and achievement. Considering what is happening in the world, we must all defend the fundamental values and principals that form the basis of an open society. A special responsibility lies with each of us who has been formed and educated within academia. We must stand up for freedom, democracy and justice, said Jörgen.
Among the speakers was the student union chairperson Ebba Erkas, the ceremony host Emelie Westergren and former student Eva Elfving, who was handed the award Alum of the Year for her dedication and professional success since completing her university studies.
Eva, who is now the site and production manager at SSAB in Borlänge, took the opportunity to share some wise advice with the newly graduated students:
– Graduating is just the beginning – now a new journey full of opportunities and challenges awaits. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, believe in yourself, and remember that you are never alone. You have the tools, the network, and the courage to shape your own path!
After the ceremony, celebrations continued with a reception on campus with students, friends and family.

Kenyan student Faith on her study experience
Graduating student Faith Kangogo completed the Master's Programme in Business Intelligence – an experience she describes as very positive:
– I’ve really appreciated the university and the programme I studied! Right now, I’m planning to go on a two-week vacation. After that, I hope to start applying what I’ve learned, either as a consultant or an employee. I’d really like to stay in Sweden to continue learning more about the language, the people, and the culture, says Faith.

When asked what she will miss most about student life, she answers:
– As a student, you don’t need to look for intellectual stimulation – it’s naturally part of your everyday life. That’s something I think I’ll really miss. I’ve truly appreciated waking up each day knowing I’ll learn something within my field. I’ll also miss meeting so many different people and cultures and having my own ideas and assumptions challenged.
A big congratulations to all graduating students and the best of luck for the future.
To all employers: they’re all yours now!
