Joycelyn was nominated with the following motivation:
"Even before coming to Sweden, Joycelyn Laryea was an ambassador for Dalarna. Since August, she has built relationships with peers, staff and local businesses, while experiencing aspects of traditional Swedish life such as hiking, eating horse sausage and sharing fika. Combining local outreach with cloud-computing and problem-solving skills, Joycelyn’s thesis aims to develop an Automatic Speech Recognition System in Somali to reduce maternal mortality. We are proud to call her a Global Swede."

About Global Swede
The Global Swede award is awarded to active, committed and enthusiastic students who are excellent in areas closely related to innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship and shown that they are good representatives of their own country as well as Sweden.
This year is not only the tenth-year jubilee of the Global Swede award, it´s also the first time the ceremony is conducted digitally.
