Exchange Opportunity with Kazakhstan

Anna Parkhouse and Susanne Corrigox recently represented Dalarna University during a visit to Suleyman Demirel University in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where their focus was to prepare an application for an Erasmus exchange in the field of linguistics.

Their visit involved a series of meetings with a number of heads of department. A presentation was given of studies in Sweden for those students who are taking linguistics courses.

"The meeting led to our submitting an application with the Swedish Council of Higher Education for Erasmus funding for 2018 to 2020 for teachers and student exchanges," states Susanne Corrigox.

The visit also included time at Eurasian National University in Astana, which is the country's capital. Azamat A. Akbarov, Dean at the Faculty of Education and Humanities at Suleyman Demirel University in Almaty, has already visited Dalarna University to discuss collaboration with university linguists.

This spring, plans will continue to develop exchange opportunities, while in May, Dalarna University representatives will attend a conference in linguistics that is being organised in Almaty.

"In the meanwhile, we have welcomed a PhD student from Almaty - Kymbat Smakova - who will be with the English Department for a month," says Susanne Corrigox.
