Summary in English
Knowledge and understanding
After completing the course, the student shall be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of:
- different traditions and key concepts in sociology
- the sociological meaning of “the modern society”
- different power relations within modern society, such as those based on class, gender and ethnicity
- the dependence of everyday social problematics on social processes and structures.
Competence and skills
After completing the course, the student shall be able to demonstrate the ability to:
- analyse different social phenomena through the use of sociological concepts and theories
- differentiate between person oriented and sociological models of explanation.
Judgement and approach
After completing the course, the student shall be able to demonstrate the ability to reflect upon:
- sociology as a specific form of societal self-knowledge
- the way in which sociological knowledge can contribute to personal development
- the relevance of sociology within social work.
