Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • compose short Chinese texts within a variety of writing genres or forms such as letters, diaries, (book) reviews, reports, and summaries
  • correctly use Chinese conjunctions, prepositions, particles and interjections
  • master the use of Chinese punctuation
  • understand the conventions of Chinese writing
  • review, revise and edit an essay according to standard Chinese Mandarin grammar and writing format.

Course Content

Students perform a variety of exercises including reading, writing, and revising shorter texts and essays. Students also have to complete weekly writing assignments.

Assessment

This course applies continuous assessment. Student performance is assessed on the basis of regular written assignments, active in-class performance and a final written exam.

Forms of Study

This course is composed of lectures, practical exercises and discussions. Chinese is used as the language of tuition, with English or Swedish as support languages. Teaching consists of whole class and group activities.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

Prerequisites

  • A minimum of 60 credits in Chinese at undergraduate level
