Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • give an account of different theoretical perspectives on learning, development and knowledge and show an understanding of how these perspectives can lead to different approaches in educational activities,
  • reflect on the school‘s value base and social mission in relation to theories about student development and learning,
  • give an account of how students‘ learning and development are affected, limited and enabled by various conditions and conditions,
  • relate basic knowledge about students‘ learning to the teaching subjects included in the current degree and to current governing documents,
  • discuss the possibilities and limitations of various digital learning resources in educational activities and demonstrate an understanding of digital cultures and social media and their importance for the development and learning of young people and adults,
  • plan and carry out an observation of a teaching situation and reflect on observation as a scientific method in educational activities.

Course Content

The course focuses on theories about students‘ learning and development, which is linked to the pedagogical activities and subject didactic questions. Pupils‘ development and learning are discussed in relation to young people‘s growing up conditions with a focus on pupils‘ different cognitive, social, cultural and economic conditions. Adult learning is also covered. The course also gives the student the opportunity to develop an understanding of the importance of digital and social media for students‘ learning and identity formation, as well as develop a critical approach to technology-based knowledge processes, by highlighting their opportunities and challenges in educational activities. In the course, the student plans and carries out an observation of teaching and discusses the observation as a method in a school on a scientific basis.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
