Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

  • explain central theories, models and concepts in cognitive science and their relevance for teaching and learning
  • explain how cognitive science principles/processes affect memory, attention, motivation and knowledge development in students in different teaching contexts

Skills and abilities

  • plan, discuss and motivate teaching activities based on cognitive science perspectives
  • adapt teaching based on students’ varying cognitive conditions, needs and abilities

Judgment and approach

  • critically examine, compare, problematize and evaluate teaching efforts and leadership strategies in relation to cognitive science research and student learning

Course Content

The course deals with cognitive science in an educational science context during digital meetings and has a special focus on central theories, models and concepts about how the brain, memory and attention can be used to develop teaching and strengthen student learning in various subjects.

During the course, participants practice planning and motivating teaching activities with support from cognitive science perspectives and adapting teaching based on students’ different conditions and needs. Participants also receive tools to critically examine teaching efforts and leadership strategies in the light of research, and analyze how analog and digital information formats can affect learning.

The course content and structure are adapted to the participants’ conditions and needs, so that the content is operationally relevant, directly usable and gives participants tools for their daily work. All participants are also given the opportunity to relate each element to their own professional role and practice.
