Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

demonstrate knowledge of the development of sports journalism
demonstrate an understanding of the distinction between written public relations and journalistic writing
demonstrate the ability to conduct interviews for journalistic and public relations purposes
demonstrate the ability to produce reports, columns, and other articles for journalistic or public relations purposes
demonstrate an understanding of ethical considerations in journalistic publication
demonstrate an understanding of and adherence to deadlines

Course Content

The course covers written sports journalism and written public relations for a public audience, in both theoretical and applied forms. The course includes both theoretical study and practical application in the form of journalistic texts and texts within the PR genre. The course also includes seminar discussions on current topics.

Assessment

  • Assessment is carried out continuously through written assignments that are discussed during seminars, as well as a written final assignment.

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–G.

To receive a Pass (G).

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Seminars - 5 Credits | U–G
  • Written exam - 2.5 Credits | U–G

Other Information

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
