Learning Outcomes

After completing the course, students will be able to:
  • demonstrate an understanding of the function and safety of building structures
  • determine the loads of constructions
  • apply the partial coefficient method according to the Eurocodes
  • dimension constructions  in wood and steel
  • dimension nodes and joints for wood and steel structures

Course Content

This course deals with different types of loads, such as snow, wind, duty load, self weight and soil pressure. Furthermore, this course also addresses the design and dimensioning of building structural design, such as beams, slabs, columns and trusses. Applied construction materials used in this course include wood and steel. Loads and construction elements are later combined in buildings and infrastructures.
