Learning Outcomes
After completing the course, students shall be able to:
- describe key concepts and terms to explain the linguistic structure of French and be able to apply these in conjunction with analyses
- describe the main linguistic structures that distinguish French from another language - preferably Swedish or another Germanic language - and be able to present a discussion of a selection of these in a written work based on a self-selected, limited corpus.
Course Content
The course includes advanced studies of written French, and analyses of different types of French language structures. Based on the literature concepts and terms are introduced. How to study the linguistic system from a scientific perspective is also demonstrated. The student formulates and defines a research question with the help of the teacher and other students. A corpus is defined and the students then perform an analysis of the material.
Assessment
The course is examined through continuous assessment of participation in seminar discussions and a limited research project presented in the form of a written report and an oral presentation based on the report.
Forms of Study
