Learning Outcomes
After completing the course, students should be able to:
- interact verbally and in writing in French, in both prepared and spontaneous situations
- read longer texts in French, both authentic and doctored, and using dictionaries, analyze and translate them
- write their own short texts in French, both standalone and in the form of textual commentary
- present an aspect of the French-speaking countries culture and society
- identify systematic similarities and differences between the Swedish and the French language regarding pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary
- apply basic skills in French grammar in grammatical analyzes and demonstrate proficiency in French language structure.
Course Content
The course covers text reading, work on pronunciation and vocabulary, listening comprehension and varied written and oral exercises. Basic skill in French grammar is applied in grammatical analyses and contrastive exercises. The course introduces students to various Francophone countries‘ culture and society. Students conclude the course with their own assessment of their learning based language learning strategies.
Assessment
The course is assessed continuously through the oral performance in seminars, written assignments, recording data, and a final exam.
Forms of Study
The seminars are central to the course and students are expected to participate actively. Instruction is in French and Swedish.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
To get the grade of VG on the whole course, VG is required on modules 1, 3 and 4.
Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Written proficiency - 4 cr
Module 2: Oral proficiency - 3.5 cr
Module 3: Written proficiency - 4 cr
Module 4: Oral proficiency - 3.5 cr
Prerequisites
- French: Basic course I, 15 cr First cycle level 1, or equivalent knowledge
Other Information
To assimilate the course requires knowledge of Swedish.
