Learning Outcomes

The course focuses on building sustainability assessment systems. Upon completion of the course students will be able to:
  • Understand the concept of sustainable development in the built environment.
  • Learn about the different sustainability systems used worldwide.
  • Describe the main characteristics of the various building rating schemes.

Course Content

The course firstly discusses the history and objectives of building rating systems. It then compares the most popular building rating systems including BREEAM, LEED, CASBEE, and Miljöklassad byggnad in a national and international perspective. Finally, it discuss how building rating systems may lead to a more sustainable building sector.

Assessment

Compulsory seminar attendance and group report of 2.5 credits.
