Learning Outcomes

The overall goal of this course is for the student to gain advanced knowledge and understanding of the implementation of research-based knowledge in clinical practice.

After completion of the course, the student shall:

  • have insight into what facilitates and hinders the implementation of evidence in health care and social services,
  • be able to suggest strategies for facilitating implementation and overcoming barriers for evidence-based practice in health care and social services,
  • be able to critically reflect on the need for implementation research in health care and social services, and
  • have knowledge of scientific methods which can be used for knowledge implementation.

Course Content

The course includes:

  • what evidence is and how it relates to other knowledge
  • which strategies exist to facilitate the implementation of knowledge in practice and what is known about their effectiveness
  • what implementation science is and its relation to intervention studies
  • which theoretical frameworks exist for implementation and how they can support the implementation of evidence in practice and/or implementation science
  • research design and methods in the area of implementation.

Assessment

Formative assessments in conjunction with seminars, including being an opponent of and defending a plan for implementation in a project or a research study within the framework of the course.

Forms of Study

Individual studies, work in pairs/study groups, lectures, and seminars.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–G.

Grades U (failed) – G (passed).

Number of credits:

  • Oral presentation, project work, discussant on another work, 7.5 credits.

Prerequisites

  • A minimum of 90 credits in caring science, medicine/medical science, social work or social care at first cycle level, including a degree project comprising at least 15 credits

The course is taught over the Internet, which requires that students have a reliable Internet connection and can communicate using speakers, microphone and web camera via a computer or similar device.
