Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- independently, identify, problematise and formulate a research problem within the field of study
- relate the identified problem to the existing body of knowledge in the field of study
- demonstrate an in-depth understanding of existing knowledge on the topic
- select relevant research methods to the research design
- critically analyse and interpret collected data relating it to existing research in the field of study
- critically reflect on the limitations of the research, ethical considerations and opportunities for further research
- academically present and discuss the research design and the results both orally and written, within a given time-frame.
Course Content
With this course students engage in the development of a research design which they carry out and present as a Master’s degree thesis. Students independently formulate the research question, relate it to existing knowledge, design and implement appropriate methods to collect and analyse data, and present the results. Students engage also to critically analyse and interpretation of the relating also to existing knowledge on the field. Students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of how to design and problematise a research topic as well as a good understanding of knowledge on the field of study.

Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is A–F.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Thesis - 30 Credits | A–F
Entry Requirements
- 60 credits in the main field of study, Tourism Studies, of which 15 credits for Theory and Research methods, second cycle
Other Information
The examiner sets the deadline for submission of essay.
If a thesis is marked as fail after three examinations the examiner may ask the author to change topic for the thesis.
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
