Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge about and critically evaluate theories and concepts with relevance to leadership within social work
  • demonstrate and critically evaluate conditions  and obstacles in relation to operational management within social work
  • demonstrate and critically evaluate, within a social work context, theories and concepts with relevance to collaboration and communication within and between organisations.

Abilities and capabilities

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • apply theories about and research on organisations, leadership and operational management in relation to the context of social work
  • identify, reflect upon and evaluate the significance of collaboration and communication within and between organisations in relation to the context of social work, nationally and internationally
  • identify opportunities  for sustainable operational management within social work using current research and theories.

Values and attitudes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • evaluate the relevance of operational management in social work in a changing world
  • evaluate the significance of equal treatment and diversity in leadership

Course Content

The course contain three themes:

  • Organisational theory and leadership theory
  • Operational management
  • Collaboration and communication

Assessment

Seminars, written assignments, take-home examination.

Forms of Study

Lectures, seminars, written assignments.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

Number of credits:

  • Seminars, assignments, take-home examination, 7.5 credits.

Prerequisites

  • 90 credits on first cycle level in sociology, social work or nursing
