Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • perform close readings of complex literary texts in the original in a foreign language of their own choosing
  • with good stylistic skills write critically elaborate reviews of literary works
  • describe in detail, and reflect on, the historical, social and biographical context of a number of literary works.

Course Content

In the course, students read a selection of fictional texts in their original language of publication. Students choose the texts in consultation with the teacher. These texts must be in a language that is not the students‘ mother tongue, they must be relevant to the students‘ plans for their thesis, and they must be relatively complex. The course includes the study of the context of the texts, and students present their interpretations of the texts both orally and in writing.

  • Active participation in seminars
  • Oral presentations
  • Written assignments. 

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is A–F.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Fiction in its Original Language - 7.5 Credits | A–F

Entry Requirements

  • 60 credits at Second Cycle, with 30 credits in the main field of study Intercultural Literature Studies

This course overlaps the previous course code AJP27A.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
