Learning outcomes for the course

On completion of the course the student should be able to:

  • account for some of the most important Arab writers from the 20th and 21st centuries and their influence on the modern Arabic literature
  • account briefly for the most important genres, movements and trends in Arabic literature during the 20th and 21st centuries
  • compare the different styles and movements studied during the course and discuss reasons for their influence on the literature
  • account briefly for how social changes in the Arab world have influenced the modern Arabic literature.
