Pregnancy, Childbirth and Postpartum Care I

The overall aim of the course is for thestudent to understand the procedures and processesof uncomplicated pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care in a sustainable perspective. The student shall be able toconduct examinations and provide treatments related to these processes in simulation-bases training based on research and the midwifery scope of practice.

Upon completion of the course, studenta will beable to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of how psychosocial aspects, attachment and bonding can affect the process of becoming parent and family formation
  • problematize and reflect on the roles and needs of the woman, newborn, relatives and others that are closely involved, how this can be affected by uncomplicated, complicated medical and psychosocial processes during pregnancy, labour and postpartum period.
  • perform examinations and treatment in uncomplicated pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period in simulation-based training within the Midwifery scope of practice
  • explain and reflect on health concepts regarding uncomplicated pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period including neonatal care
  • critically reflect on sustainability perspectives, governance, legislation, regulations and ethics in the midwifery profession in relation to pregnancy, labour and postpartum care
  • critically reflect on different forms of pain relief treatment in pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.
