Arabic: Bachelor‘s Degree Thesis

First Cycle

Starts week 3, 2024

On completion of the course, the student shall be able to:

  • independently formulate a research question and a time plan for the BA thesis
  • independently search for relevant material for the BA thesis
  • independently evaluate the usefulness of the material and adapt it to his/her own research question
  • consider relevant ethical aspects of the research work
  • discuss and analyse questions relating to Arabic literature or linguistics
  • argue for his/her choice of theory based on the theoretical background of the subject and recent research
  • within given timeframes in writing present the results of the research undertaken that is linguistically at an academic level and that uses a well-formulated argument
  • orally present the results of the research undertaken and objectively discuss others‘ opinions of it
  • use established academic formalities for scientific texts
  • review his/her own research and show an understanding for further research necessary in the chosen subject
  • review and constructively discuss another students‘ thesis.

Computer Skills:

Surf on the Internet, read and send emails, use a word-processing programme (e.g. Word). Plug in peripherals to your computer, install programmes and adapt installations for your computer.

Computer Capacity:

Access to a computer (Not a mini pc, tablet or similar) that is not older than two years (or equivalent) and broadband connection, at least 2 Mbit/s (not mobile broadband, because mobile broadband can vary considerably in speed).

Means of Education:

Higher rate of web-based communication where our learning platform (Learn/Canvas) is a natural element of the course, as are web-based meetings using sound and image. Lectures can be broadcast live or can alternatively be made available afterwards online. Use more advanced programmes – for example, simulation programmes.
