Description
The dramatically rapid development of the coronavirus pandemic in spring 2020 hit the world's labour markets very hard: millions of employees were dismissed from their jobs or forced to reduce their working hours and wages. In order to examine the effects of the pandemic on the Swedish labour market, this research project focuses on companies' adjustment processes resulting in short-term layoffs and terminations and how this has affected individuals and work environments in the hospitality industry, i.e. the part of the Swedish labour market that has been particularly hard hit.
The research project consists of three sub-studies: (1) Restructuring and individual consequences for dismissed employees with both fixed-term and permanent employment, (2) Restructuring and psychosocial work environment consequences for remaining employees, including people who have been short-term laid off, and (3) Restructuring and local social partner relations with a focus on collaboration and lessons for future staff reductions.
