Attention!
If you have previously taken a university course in Italian in Sweden, even if it was many years ago, you do not need to take this placement test. You will be directly eligible for the courses corresponding to your prior studies. If you feel that you have forgotten much over the years, we encourage you to re-enrol in the same course you took earlier.
Students who have studied for at least 13 years in Italy do not need to take the test but must instead contact the Senior Lecturer, Vera Nigrisoli Wärnhjelm (vnw@du.se).
Note: The test is free of charge.
The Test Structure
The test has two parts:
- a written test, conducted digitally (i.e., online)
- a spoken test via Zoom
You can only take the spoken test if you pass the written test. For this reason, you will not receive a time slot for the spoken test until you have received confirmation that you passed the written part.
Based on the results of both tests, we will determine whether you can start at Beginner’s Course I or II, or at the A-level undergraduate courses.
Test Information
Tests are held once a month.
The written test is 2 hours long. To take it, you need access to a computer with an internet connection and a quiet environment where you will not be disturbed. You do not need headphones or a webcam.
A few days before the test, you will receive detailed instructions from our technical staff, including the test link. This information will be sent to the email address you used when registering.
If you pass the written test, the teacher will contact you with a time and Zoom link for the spoken test.
How to Register
To register for the test, send an email to the Senior Lecturer, Vera Nigrisoli Wärnhjelm (vnw@du.se). In your message, explain how you acquired your Italian language skills.
You must register no later than five weekdays before the scheduled test date.
If you cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances, you must notify Vera Nigrisoli Wärnhjelm (vnw@du.se) at least one weekday before the test. If you cancel later than this, you will not be able to register again until the following semester.
Please note: This proficiency test is intended solely for placement in Italian courses at Dalarna University.
