How many scholarships are awarded each semester?
There is no limit to the number of Choose Dalarna First Scholarships or Academic Excellence Scholarships awarded. Every student who meets the eligibility criteria and submits an application during the designated periods will receive the scholarship.

When will I know if I will receive the Choose Dalarna First Scholarship?
We will publish a list of all admitted students who fulfilled the criteria for the Choose Dalarna First Scholarship by April 1 (for the autumn semester) and November 1 (for the spring semester).
If your name is on the list, the 5,000 SEK scholarship will be applied automatically to your first-semester tuition fee.

How do I qualify for the Choose Dalarna First Scholarship, and do I need to apply separately?
To qualify, you must:

  • Rank any campus-based Dalarna University programme as your first choice when applying on UniversityAdmissions.se.
  • Submit the Dalarna University scholarship application by February 15th (for autumn intake) or September 15th (for spring intake).

Even if you are admitted to a different DU programme than your first choice, you may still receive the scholarship as long as any eligible DU programme was your top choice.

How do I know that my scholarship application was received?

After you submit your application for the Choose Dalarna First Scholarship or the Academic Excellence Scholarship, a confirmation screen is displayed. If you saw this screen, your application was submitted successfully. You will not receive a confirmation email.

Do I need to notify anyone if I am conditionally admitted or offered an SI scholarship?
No.

The Swedish Institute receives admission data directly from University Admissions. Conditional admission does not affect your eligibility for a scholarship.
If you're awarded an SI scholarship, Dalarna University will be informed directly. You don’t need to notify either organisation.

Can I receive both a Dalarna University scholarship and a Swedish Institute scholarship?
No. While you're welcome to apply for both, if you're selected for an SI scholarship, your Dalarna University scholarship will not be applied. Receiving a scholarship from Dalarna University does not impact your chances of getting a scholarship from the Swedish Institute.

Are there scholarships based on financial or other need?
Scholarships are not specifically linked to an applicants financial situation or other circumstances. The "Choose Dalarna First" scholarship is for everyone who is required to pay tuition fees and admitted who selected Dalarna University as their first choice. The "Academic Excellence Scholarship" is also available to every fee-paying student who fulfills the specific criteria for their programme of study.

Can I get a scholarship if I am studying at the bachelor's level?
No. Dalarna University scholarships are only available for master's programmes.

Can I get a scholarship if I am studying a master's programme online?
Yes. Students starting in 2026 can receive Dalarna University scholarships for all DU master's programmes, including those taught online.

How do I apply for the Academic Excellence Scholarship, and do I need to reapply each semester?

You must submit an application each semester using the form on the Dalarna University scholarship website so your academic performance can be reviewed. After submitting the application form, you will see an on-screen confirmation that your application has been received. No confirmation email is sent.

  • If you start your programme in 2026 or later, the application periods are:
    • February 1 to February 15 (for autumn semester results)
    • July 1 to July 15 (for spring semester results)

If you didn’t qualify one semester but do in another, you can still apply and receive the award for that semester.

What is the Programme Distinction, and how do I qualify for it?
The Programme Distinction is an additional scholarship awarded at the end of your programme if you received the Academic Excellence Scholarship in every semester of your studies.
You can apply for it at the same time as your final Semester Award application. If you meet the criteria, the scholarship will be paid out after you graduate.

I started studying in 2025 and will continue in 2026. Can I apply for one of the new scholarships?
No. The new scholarship structure applies only to students who begin a new programme in 2026 or later. If you started your programme in 2025 or earlier, you will continue under the previous scholarship structure for the duration of your studies.
